Wedding Checklist

This list will help you star planning your wedding and may provide you with details you have not already thought of.

Often future decisions will depend greatly on early choices.  You should make these decisions your first priority in your wedding planning journey.

bullet Determine what level of formality, and what style of wedding you want.
bullet Time of year and time of day directly relates to the level of formality.
Example - evening weddings after 7:00 are generally formal affairs.)
bullet Location -  Often popular locations are booked well in advance.
bullet Set a general budget amount and talk with parents about who will pay for what.
bullet Determine who will perform the ceremony.

After you considered the above suggestions turn your attention to the following list of details and decisions:

c

Announce your engagement-send notices to local and hometown newspapers

c

Develop your guest list (or determine a total number of guests you can afford, and work from there.)

c

Set the actual date, after determining availability of ceremony and reception sites.

c Plan your color scheme
c Book ceremony site
c Book official that will perform the ceremony
c Book reception location
c Book caterer
c Book photographer and/or video
c Choose your attendants
c Find your wedding dressing
c Select wedding attire and accessories for attendants
c Determine sizes of attendants and order their attire
c Determine where you want to honeymoon and begin making travel arrangements
c Determine what kind of music you want for your reception and ceremony.
c Book band or DJ, etc for reception
c Find musicians for your ceremony
¨c Select a florist
c Buy wedding rings
c Help mothers select their attire (so that they don't "clash" in photographs!)
c Order invitations (and thank you notes, table place cards, etc)
c Arrange to rent any necessary equipment (tables and chairs, silverware, china, tent, etc)
c Mail invitations 4 to 6 weeks before wedding date
c Order wedding cake
c Arrange for transportation to and from wedding and reception (horse-drawn carriage, limousine, etc)
c Get marriage license
c Gather information on out-of-town guest accommodations, and make reservations where needed. (you could include a list with your invitation, telling guests about local hotels and inns, and including phone numbers, and/or an offer to make the reservations for them)
One month prior to the wedding!
c Record gifts received and send thank-you notes
c Plan rehearsal and rehearsal dinner (often the "domain" of the parents of the groom)
c Purchase gifts for attendants
c Purchase gifts for each other
¨c Schedule final fittings, including shoes and accessories
c Arrange for cleaning and preserving of wedding dress-ask someone to take it for you after the wedding.
c Schedule appointments at beauty salon—go 3-4 weeks before the wedding for haircuts, and/or to try out the style you will wear on your wedding day-bring headpiece, veil, etc to incorporate in hairstyle. Also make your appointment for the day of your wedding (or the day before if you're having a simple hairstyle you can sleep on)
c Invite bridesmaids to have appointments with you at beauty salon
c Groom get haircut 2-5 weeks before wedding, so it doesn't look "just cut"!
c Choose someone to attend to the guest book to make sure that all your guests sign it.
The week before the wedding.
c Make a schedule of your reception. Give copies of this to your best man, maid of honor, wedding coordinator, caterer and photographer.
c Assign someone (or a few people) to "run" the reception-to take charge of moving events along according to the schedule, and keep things running smoothly. (If you have a coordinator, s/he will do this.)
c Arrange for someone to gather all necessary items for ceremony and reception, and to transport them to the sites. Arrange for someone to be responsible for returning them afterward.
c Delegate all tasks for the wedding day—a great way to do this is to write an index card for each person you are delegating tasks to, and give this to them at the rehearsal or a day or two before the wedding. If you are really organized, give a copy of these lists to the best man, maid of honor, or wedding coordinator so they know who is responsible for what tasks.
